Our Story

As a pediatrician and a marathon runner with a strong passion for health and fitness, I have been on a journey to find healthier baklava over the past several years. Since I moved to the United States in 2011, I was never satisfied with the quality of baklava I found in the market, when I could even find it. The baklava pieces were so bulky that they would break with flakes everywhere with too much dough and drenching in syrup. Sounds familiar? Growing up in the Middle East, I knew we could do better. I wanted to bring the highest quality baklava possible to the United States. I toured different manufacturers and sampled baklava in a number of countries until I found my dream in Jordan. I found healthy baklava with 80% premium nuts in every piece, no artificial ingredients, high protein (6.5 gm per 50 gm serving), finger-digit-size bites (portion-control) with minimum syrup (2-3%), hence our slogan “No Sticky Fingers”, compared to other companies that have 50-60% syrup. I launched Dar Baklava with the vision of seeing it known and loved as the macaroons of France and the biscotti of Italy.
